Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s Trusted Circle Of Friends In L.A.

For Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the landmark decision to leave royal life and responsibilities behind was massive. In very real ways, they were leaving their lives, friends, and family members an ocean away so they could live in Los Angeles.

It was easy to feel bad for Harry and Meghan as we imagined them being lonely in L.A. But it turns out they have a squad of close friends that help make everything better.

But who exactly is in that squad? Here is everything you need to know about Harry and Meghan’s inner circle in Los Angeles!

Doria Ragland

Doria Ragland is the least surprising person on this list. She is Meghan Markle’s mother, and she’s lived in Los Angeles for years.

It was easier for her to get facetime with her daughter back when Meghan starred in Suits. And though Doria spent time in the U.K. leading up to the royal wedding, she flew back to the U.S. soon after.

While Doria has her own life (she’s a social worker and also a yoga instructor), living in the same town should give her a chance to catch up with Meghan and Harry. Thanks to their big move, she should also get plenty more opportunities to bond with her grandson Archie. Though, there were reports back in April that Meghan had not visited her mother yet.

Serena Williams

You might not think Meghan Markle and Serena Williams would develop a close friendship. They first met back in 2010 at a Super Bowl party in Miami, but it was in 2014 during a charity flag football event that they really hit it off. On her now-defunct lifestyle blog The Tig, Meghan had nothing but good things to say about the star tennis player.

“We hit it off immediately, taking pictures, laughing and chatting — not about tennis or acting, but about good old-fashioned girly stuff,” she wrote. When these two are together, they don’t have to worry about fame and fortune. Instead, they can just be themselves.

Now that Meghan and Serena live in the same gated community, hanging out will be easier than ever!

James Corden

You probably don’t think of royalty when you think of James Corden. However, this comedian has ties to the royal family that go back for many years.

Back when they both lived in England, Prince Harry and James Corden were close friends. This is presumably the reason that Corden was invited both to the royal wedding and the exclusive reception afterward.

Obviously, these two couldn’t hang out as much once Corden moved to Los Angeles for his gig on The Late Late Show. But now that Harry lives in LA, these two can dive back into shenanigans whenever they want.

George and Amal Clooney

If anyone can understand the public pressures of being a power couple like Harry and Meghan, it’s George and Amal Clooney. The A-list actor and influential human rights lawyer also have parenthood in common with Harry and Meghan. The Clooneys’ twins Ella and Alexander were born in 2017.

So, it’s no wonder that George and Amal Clooney appear to be pals with Harry and Meghan. They were invited to the royal wedding and have even enjoyed a double date with the royal couple at the Clooneys’ villa in Lake Como, Italy.

And though the Clooneys have been raising their twins on a stunning estate in Berkshire, England for the past few years, renovations on George’s old Studio City bachelor pad have been spotted in 2020. They’ve reportedly spent $1 million renovating the property into a family-friendly estate, including a “play cottage” and villas for the live-in help. This has sparked rumors that they might be moving to L.A. If so, expect them to be part of Meghan and Harry’s inner circle.

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas are another power couple that can relate to Harry and Meghan. The Indian movie star and American pop star got married in 2018. But Priyanka’s friendship with Meghan Markle goes back years before that!

“Priyanka is unbelievable,” Meghan told PTI in 2016. “She has become a really good friend. ELLE Magazine in the U.S. hosted a dinner celebrating Women in TV, and we met that night — turns out that she really likes Suits.”

Priyanka and Nick (then engaged) even attended the royal wedding in 2018, and have been spotted hanging out with Meghan and Harry several times since. Priyanka and Nick were even among the first to visit the couple at Frogmore Cottage after Archie was born (bearing baby gifts from Tiffany & Co., of course).

Now that Meghan and Harry live in Los Angeles (Priyanka and Nick have a $20 million mansion in Encino), the two couples can hang out whenever they want.

Abigail Spencer

It’s not always common for actors to stay friendly with former co-stars. Just ask the cast of the original Star Trek! However, Abigail Spencer was more than just Meghan’s co-star on Suits.

The two were friends before Meghan was even cast on the show. And the friendship lasted, as Abigail was invited to the royal wedding and later helped throw a baby shower for Meghan in New York.

Abigail, Harry, and Meghan even hung out over the holidays in 2019. Now that they live so close, regular reunions are pretty much inevitable.

Oprah Winfrey

Just about anybody would kill to have Oprah Winfrey in their corner. Fortunately for Harry and Meghan, Winfrey has been a fan and supporter of the couple for a long time.

Oprah attended the royal wedding. Later, she sent a special collection of books to the family for their son, Archie. Each of the books has a special sticker on it that says “Archie’s Book Club” instead of the familiar “Oprah’s Book Club.”

“This baby will have enough books to last a lifetime!” Oprah told Access Hollywood. She also mentioned that books are her “standard gift” for people she “really cares about.”

When Meghan and Harry first needed a place to crash in L.A., Oprah helped arrange for them stay at Tyler Perry’s house. Now that they live in L.A., we can only assume they’ll spend some more time with Oprah. She has a spectacular $90 million estate in Montecito, California that would be perfect for a very special “book club” meeting!
