When most of the Trump family generates headlines, it’s because of something specific they did or said. When it comes to Barron Trump, though, all he has to do to generate headlines is show up where the paparazzi can see him.
Part of this is due to how relatively reclusive Barron is. Most of the buzz, though, comes from the fact that he is so insanely tall!
Considering the kid is only 16, he’s likely to just keep growing. But what do we know about this tall kiddo? Is Barron like his famous father, and does he entertain any hoop dreams? Let’s find out!
A giant among teens
Unlike many in his famous family, Barron has done a good job of dodging the media frenzy (more on this later). As such, we usually only see him in public for special occasions. Most recently, one of those occasions was the funeral of Ivana Trump, Donald Trump’s first wife.
When you see Barron next to his family, you’ll quickly see that he towers over everybody. This includes Donald Trump, a man who is 6’3″. The fact that Barron (who was already 6’7″ last year) towers over his dad and even his mother (Melania is 5’11”) is quite impressive.
While Barron only looks very tall alongside his tall parents, he looks like a giant next to shorter people. For example, this famous picture often makes the rounds on Twitter to showcase Barron’s extreme height!

Growing up before our eyes
Part of what makes Barron Trump’s height so impressive is that we have watched him grow up (quite literally) in front of our very eyes. After all, Barron was just 10 years old when Trump won the presidency in 2016.
Most people didn’t know who Barron Trump even was until Donald Trump began to run for president. In those days, and even after Trump won the presidency, the general perception of Barron was that he needed to be protected from the world. As Newsweek reports this included the time that comedian Kathy Griffin released an obviously fake photo of herself holding up Donald Trump’s head.
An angry Trump took to Twitter and wrote “Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself. My children, especially my 11 year old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!”
Some thought the elder Trump was trying to score political points. The alternative was to believe that young Barron really thought a middle-aged actress had gotten past the entirety of the Secret Service and decapitated Donald’s head as if she was the star of Highlander.
Whether Barron’s fear and confusion were real at the time or not, one thing is for sure: at his current insane height, it’s tough to imagine Barron being scared of anything else ever again!
Successfully avoiding the media circus
Why do we see so little of Barron Trump compared to the rest of his famous family? Well, that can be explained in two words: Melania Trump.
Back in 2016, she explained how she attempts to protect Barron during an interview with ABC News. Less than two weeks ahead of Donald Trump’s 2016 election victory, she said that “I teach him, I explain to him so he knows what’s going on,” she said. “He’s taking it very well. I keep him balanced and — just have him a childhood as normal as possible. And he’s enjoying his school and his sports. He’s a great athlete. And I just want to have him — out of the spotlight for now.”
She echoed this sentiment again in 2018 during an interview with Sean Hannity. She discussed that while Barron couldn’t really have a “normal childhood,” she was still doing her best to “protect” the young man so she could “give him the childhood he deserves.” And she has been so successful in this endeavor that every peek at the now-taller Barron comes as a surprise!

Donald Trump dishes about his tall son
Donald Trump is no stranger to bragging. While he mostly brags about himself, he’s always happy to brag about his family as well. Of course, in typical Donald fashion, he couldn’t brag about one person without bashing another.
According to The New York Post, Trump dished about his son’s great height at a North Carolina GOP event. “Barron is 6-foot-7, can you believe it? And he’s 15,” he said before turning his attention towards Barron’s older brother. “Eric is short — he’s only 6-foot-6.”
Considering that “short” Eric Trump is still three inches taller than his dad, we’ll chalk this up to Donald’s strange sense of humor.
No basketball dreams for Barron
By all accounts, Barron Trump is very similar to his dad. And since Donald Trump was an avid baseball player when he was younger, many have wondered if Barron was going to take up a sport. With his great height, it seems like he’d be a natural at basketball.
While Barron is a big sports fan, it looks like he doesn’t favor basketball (despite his great height) or baseball (despite his dad’s passion for the sport). According to The Sun, Melania Trump mentioned in a 2018 interview that Barron was “all into sports,” with the publication pointing out that Barron had started playing soccer and sporting soccer apparel (he’s a big Arsenal fan).
That love of soccer hasn’t faded since 2018. Barron’s love of that sport was cemented when he met Wayne Rooney of D.C. United that same year. And just this year, Sport Bible reports that Barron has been showing off some serious moves and may be positively compared to soccer legend Peter Crouch.
Who knows? In the coming years, we may see the tall Barron Trump take to soccer as part of a college team!
