Matt Damon Breaks Silence on Ben Affleck & Jennifer Lopez Romance

One question has been on the mind of Bennifer fans everywhere: Does Matt Damon approve?

Yes, yes he does.

The 50-year-old BFF of Ben Affleck, who makes movies in his spare time, told Extra on Monday, ““I’m just so happy for him. He’s the best.”

The supportive Stillwater star added, “He deserves every happiness in the world. I’m glad for both of them.”

The confirmation that Damon has boarded the Team Bennifer train comes one day after Lopez made the relationship Instagram-official.

In celebration of her 52nd birthday this past weekend, Lopez posted a series of bikini photos, including a snap of her kissing Affleck, 48.

Back in May, when Lopez and Affleck were spotted vacationing together in Montana, Damon addressed the rumors that the couple was back together 17 years after they ended their two-year engagement.

“I hope it’s true. I love them both,” Damon told Today. “That would be awesome.”

Damon and Affleck shot to fame together as the stars and screenwriters of Good Will Hunting in 1997. They won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, which cemented their status as Hollywood darlings.

Now, they have a new film, The Last Duel, due in theaters Oct. 15. It marks their first joint screenwriting effort since Good Will Hunting, and their first co-starring roles since Kevin Smith’s Dogma (1999). The duo have made cameo appearances in Smith’s films over the years, including Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001) and Jay and Silent Bob Reboot (2019).

Smith also directed Affleck and Lopez in his 2004 film Jersey Girl at the beginning of their relationship, and revealed in May that he is the person responsible for coining the term “Bennifer.”

“It’s a name I first gave the kids during ‘Jersey Girl’ pre-production, before the world found out they were dating. I’d later drop the name in an interview with the @nytimes. Shortly thereafter, it appeared in the article and then entered the vernacular,” Smith tweeted.

And like Damon, Smith fully approves of the rekindled relationship.

“Life happens like that sometimes. You circle back to the people who made the difference, made the most difference in your life,” he told E! News in June. “I’m happy for ’em, man, you know? Like, more pictures! That’s what I say.”

But Smith doesn’t have to worry. Now that Affleck and Lopez are Instagram-official, more pictures of the couple are almost certainly on the way.
