Compared to figures like Charles and William, Prince George is one of the lesser-known members of the Royal Family. That won’t last long, though. George is the oldest son of William, which means he’s in line to assume the throne after his father passes away. Before you know it, this adorable kid is going to become the King of England!
That’s hard to process, largely because we have watched George grow up before our eyes. It wasn’t that long ago that he was rubbing elbows with President Obama in a cozy robe and making pudding like his life depended on it. Now, though, that adorable kiddo has become a young man with the keen mind and regal bearing of his famous parents.

Raised by hands-on parents

In many ways, the upbringing of Prince George is something the whole world should be concerned with. As the future King of England, he will eventually be making decisions that affect millions of people around the globe. Simply put, what he learns today may have consequences that affect each and every one of us in the days to come.
Fortunately, it looks like the throne (and, therefore, the world) is in good hands. William and Kate have proven to be very hands-on parents, and they’ve insisted on raising a son who is accustomed to following rules and doing chores, including helping to make meals. As reported by People, William confessed that he wanted to create “a normal family” and that he and Kate are focusing on “keeping a secure, stable environment around [George].”
In other words, they are focusing on raising a well-adjusted young man rather than simply raising a king. And that will hopefully give George the upbringing he needs to become the best king possible when it’s time for him to wear the crown.

Meeting Barack Obama

While William and Kate want to give Prince George a normal upbringing, the simple fact is that he has opportunities most children don’t have thanks to his wealth and his famous family. And in 2016, he got to do something truly special: meet President Barack Obama. And that meeting was impossibly cute thanks to the fact that George shook hands with the president while wearing a bathrobe!
Obama took the bathrobe in stride, crouching on his haunches and shaking hands with the future king. That didn’t keep him from making a hilarious joke about George’s lack of formality while speaking at the Correspondents’ Dinner. “Even some foreign leaders, they’ve been looking ahead, anticipating my departure,” he said. “Last week, Prince George showed up to our meeting in his bathrobe. That was a slap in the face.” This was all in good humor, though, and the Obamas continue to enjoy a positive relationship with the Royal Family.
Like father, like son at Prince Harry’s wedding

Only two years after visiting the president, Prince George attended his uncle’s wedding. When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got married, it was a major event attended by plenty of royals, celebs, and government officials. And at an event this formal, the young prince sadly couldn’t afford to wear something as cozy as a bathrobe
Instead, he opted to look like Prince William’s very own Mini-Me. Wearing pants to an official event for the first time (royal children typically stick to shorts), George wore a long, dark coat and matching pants. It looked almost exactly like the military uniform that his father wears to special events. For those who were wondering if George really had it in him to rule the country, this sight was reassuring. After all, he suddenly looked exactly like his very regal and very popular father!

At 12, Prince George looks downright regal

Still don’t think George has it in him to be the future King of England? If that’s true, then you probably haven’t seen the official portrait from when he turned 12. When William and Kate released the photo online, it came as a surprise to many of us who still remembered the infamous pudding incident of 2019. That was the year that George was supposed to be making some pudding for an official event intended to honor military soldiers and veterans.
In a clip that went viral, young George got so into the pudding-making process that he vigorously stabbed the bowl, causing his parents to laugh and causing the Queen to try to dodge flying pudding! In July of 2025, though, George turned 12, and it seems like those immature days are now behind him. In the official photo, he looks like he raided William’s closet for his fit; for that matter, he looks more like William than ever before.
Now that he’s older, George is already attending more royal functions, and everyone from British citizens to foreign dignitaries is getting used to seeing the prince at major events. That’s only fitting for a future king, and we can only hope he approaches diplomacy more delicately than he approached that pudding!
