If you keep track of royal drama, then you know what a troublemaker Prince Harry has proven to be. When he was younger, he made headlines through antics that included a Nazi-looking Halloween costume and a Las Vegas party where he got completely naked. While he eventually matured, the young prince generated even more bonkers headlines after marrying Meghan Markle, someone disliked by everyone from Prince William to the British press.
Eventually, Harry took things to the next level by fleeing his home country altogether, starting a new life with Meghan in America. For a long time, it seemed like these royal rebels would spend the rest of their lives in the United States. Now, however, they have returned to England for an extended stay that might just become permanent, especially once William takes the throne. That can only happen if Charles dies, of course, which leaves the obvious question: what, if anything, is Harry likely to inherit from his famous father? Keep reading to find out!
Why the sudden discourse about inheritance?
Before we dive into what Harry will or will not get from his father, we need to answer another major question: why the sudden talk about inheritance? Morbidly, the answer all comes down to Charles’ health. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2024, and while he has received treatment, that’s not the same as a cure. The king still has cancer, and nobody knows exactly how healthy he is or (even more morbidly) exactly when he’s going to die.
This is a major part of why people are speculating about Harry’s inheritance. Previously, Harry was very estranged from Charles, which is one of the reasons he moved to America in the first place. However, if Charles’ health has taken a turn for the worse, he may be interested in reconciling with his youngest son. In fact, that’s what many royal fans think is happening now: that Charles has received a negative diagnosis and invited Harry back home so they can patch things up and present a unified front before William takes the throne.

Precious family heirlooms
So, onto the big question: just what kinds of things is Harry likely to inherit from King Charles? The most likely thing he will get from his old man is assorted family heirlooms. If you didn’t already know this, the royals are really big on passing down jewelry and other special items from generation to generation. One interesting example of this is that Prince Harry actually inherited his mother’s wedding dress back in 2014 (her will said he couldn’t get it until he was 30).
Additionally, Princess Diana also left William and Harry an assortment of jewelry. In her will, she expressed hopes that it would one day be used by her sons’ spouses, who would enjoy it the same way Diana did. With all that being said, it’s highly likely that Charles, like Diana before him, will leave some heirlooms to his two sons. Exactly who gets what, however, may depend on Charles’ relationship with his children when he passes (more on this soon).
Multiple private trusts
One of the perks of Harry’s life is that he was rich and famous from the moment he was born. However, there was one downside to this: the money wasn’t his…not directly, that is. Most of the money was held directly by then-Prince Charles. That didn’t really matter when the two were on good terms, as Harry could get more cash whenever he wanted it. But after they had their falling out, Harry told Oprah that Charles had financially cut him off. That is the primary reason he and Meghan entered into numerous media agreements upon their arrival in America: they required some liquid capital!
If Harry really has patched things up with Charles, then he is very likely to receive a private trust. This would ensure that Harry is financially set for life after the king dies. Additionally, Harry and Meghan’s children may also receive trusts. This would allow Charles some peace of mind, knowing that he is materially providing for his grandchildren long after he has passed away.

Or will he inherit nothing at all?
Now, you may have noticed plenty of “ifs” and “maybes” while reading. That’s because, to put it bluntly, there’s absolutely no guarantee that Harry will inherit anything after his father passes away. The royals are notoriously private, and the only reason we know how estranged Charles and Harry are is that Harry wrote about it and discussed it on television. Everybody likes to think these two could reconcile before Charles dies, but so far, we’ve seen no indication that has happened.
What does that mean for Harry? If Charles is still holding a grudge, he may very well leave his son with nothing at all. In the last couple of years, insiders have claimed that many family members have encouraged Charles to ice Harry out entirely…to punish him, effectively, for years of rebellion and besmirching the family name. If that happens, Harry may have to do in England what he was trying to do in America: make money however he can!
