Most professional jobs require a relatively conservative wardrobe. Those in prestigious law firms, for example, mostly wear suits, and there’s a reason for that. A suit tells clients and fellow attorneys that you are serious and mean business. But those who work as news anchors don’t have clients…they have viewers. And there’s nothing more those viewers enjoy seeing than a particularly crazy outfit!
Sometimes, this means showing off a little skin. Other times, it means violating the United States flag code. Either way, the goal is the same: to titillate audiences and make them wonder what the wacky anchor will wear next. But who are the news anchors who wore the most hilariously inappropriate clothing in the history of broadcast journalism? Keep reading to find out!
Pete Hegseth wore the American flag

These days, Pete Hegseth is best known as the United States’ Secretary of War. Like many in Donald Trump’s administration, though, he comes from a distinctly non-political background. Previously, he hosted Fox and Friends Weekend, and he had an interesting gimmick: whenever possible, Hegseth would wear tacky suits with even tackier accessories. You know your friends who like to “ironically” wear ugly Christmas sweaters? Yeah, Hegseth was rocking some equally groanworthy fits whenever the cameras were rolling.
On a few occasions, however, the news anchor took things a little too far. To demonstrate his patriotism, Hegseth liked to wear shirts, boots, and jackets that were styled after the American flag. While the anchor would likely say that he was just showing off how much he loved his country, others saw this as a flagrant violation of the United States flag code. This created some mixed signals as skeptics collectively asked the same question: “if you love your country so much, why do you keep doing that to the flag?”

Ginger Zee channels her inner animal

Compared to some of the news anchors on this list, Ginger Zee isn’t all that offensive. She never abused the US Flag code, she doesn’t really show off much skin, and she never came close to flashing us on air. However, she does have one particular habit that raises our eyebrows every time. You see, Zee likes to let her inner animal out, and the best way to do that is by dressing in the craziest animal print outfits you have ever seen!
On several Good Morning America appearances, Zee has rocked some bizarre fashion choices. This included a snake skin suit in 2019 and a leopard print dress in 2021. While Zee herself is beautiful, the way she chooses to present herself to the world is downright ugly. It’s also eccentric, to put it mildly. Like, how many news anchors do you know who wear this kind of clothing on camera? In a way, though, this has become part of Zee’s branding, as she is one of a kind in the world of broadcast journalism.
Emily Compagno can’t stop showing skin

It’s no surprise that some of the most popular news anchors in the world happen to be beautiful women. And once they get the job, some of these anchors waste no time choosing a wardrobe that shows off their physical assets. A great example of this is Fox News host Emily Compagno. Naturally buxom and with legs that could go on for days, Compagno is the kind of woman who turns heads wherever she goes. As you might expect, every head turns right toward the TV when she decides to rock one of her signature scantily-clad looks!
A perfect example of this is the leather minidress she wore on air in April 2024. The dress barely reached the middle of her thigh, showing off her long, luxurious legs. The dress was also remarkably tight, putting Compagno’s ample chest front and center. Honestly, it’s hard to tell whether this thirst trap of a dress makes her the best or worst journalist of all time. On one hand, she gets tons of people to watch the news who would otherwise turn off the TV. On the other hand, they probably aren’t listening to a word she’s saying when she wears stuff like this!

Rachel Campos-Duffy nearly flashed the entire world

Out of all the news anchors on this list, Rachel Campos-Duffy probably had it the worst. You see, everyone else went out of their way to show off the fashion choices that made them infamous. Campos-Duffy, however, apparently didn’t realize she had dressed a little too naughtily until it was too late. Then, we all watched her try to fix the problem in real time!
In February 2024, Campos-Duffy was quite literally caught in the middle while Will Cain and Pete Hegseth debated whether fried catfish or fried chicken was better. She didn’t have much to contribute, though, because she was focused entirely on the papers on her lap. Why is that? Apparently, her dress was very short, and she was worried about having a wardrobe malfunction on live TV!
